Level 2 Advanced Freediver Course
Pure Apnea Level 2 is an internationally recognised freedive course. It is held over three full day period or two evenings and two full days, consisting of classroom theory, pool session and two open water session. This course is designed to safely improve your knowledge, skills and ability in the fastest way possible. This is for students who have completed a Level 1 course and want to advance their diving.
Course Outline
Theory (4hrs)
- Physiology of freediving
- Mammalian dive reflex
- Full body, diaphragm and thoracic stretching
- Anaerobic training, CO2 tables and apnea training
- Failure depth and freefall
- Finning techniques and body position
- Safety, rescues and equipment
- Respiratory barotraumas
- Preventing blackouts
- Pressure and equalization techniques
Pool Session (4hrs)
- Breathholds (static and dynamic)
- Water rescues
- Finning techniques and body position
- Recovery breathing
- CO2 and O2 training tables
Open Water (8hrs) – Up to 30m
Consists of 4 open water sessions over 2 days.

- Buoyancy
- Duck dives
- Free Immersion (FIM)
- Constant weight (CWT)
- Variable weight (VWT)
- Finning techniques and body position
- Freefall
- Rescue dives
Prerequisites
- 18 years of age or 16+ years of age with signed parental and physician’s signature
- Certified as a Pure Apnea Level 1 Freediver or equivalent
- In good health
- Sign a Course Register, Indemnity Form and Medical Questionnaire
- Completed a level 1 course with a certified school
Students must have the following dive equipment:
- Fins, preferably closed heel and long blade
- Mask, preferably low volume
- Snorkel
- Wetsuit or exposure protection
- Weight belt and weights
Gear is available for hire and purchase. (There may be an additional charge)
Pool entry fee, snacks and refreshments are included in the course cost.
We will be using Spear West for our theory session. Any gear needed can be purchased on the night.
